Read on for a description of how I successfully, and unsuccessfully applied the Dodo Juice wax!

Now unless you are into car detailing, you’ll be thinking “What’s Dodo juice?”.

Dodo Juice - Rainforest Rub

I’ll begin from the top.

Dodo juice is a brand of car detailing products that range from shampoos to polishes to waxes. Anyway, the Rainforest Rub that I am referring to is a carnauba wax that smells of watermelon and is green. The wax is designed to protect the paint on your car from the environment and harsh conditions it may be in.

This was my first encounter with a carnauba wax and the least I can say is, it was eventful. Now the wax is meant to be applied either by hand or using a foam applicator. The first attempt was with a foam applicator on a sunny day up in the north of the country! (Yes, fortunately I am a northerner!).

Me being me, decided to apply the wax to the whole car at once and then buff off after. First mistake. Applying it to the whole car meant the panel to first receive the wax had it for around 15 minutes. (On the tub it says to leave on for about 5 – 10 minutes depending on environmental conditions).

So after I had waxed the whole car (5 door hatchback, Golf MKIV) I buffed off the remnants, only to find that it was ‘caked’ on, the situation I was trying to avoid! The wax was hard to get off and took a bit of pressure. Second mistake!

Then came the morning with the sun light. Smears EVERYWHERE. I was extremely annoyed at myself at this stage and got so fed up I just left them. I chucked my Microfibers in the wash and went on with some web design.

I decided to get in touch with a friend on a forum (professional detailer) and ask how it was suppose to be done. He gave me some helpful tips (Guy from GolfGTiForum, his website TONA Valeting) and really helped me understand how it was suppose to be done.

So after Brands Hatch (Classic Touring Car Club Meet that my dad was involved with), I went to my Girlfriends for a few days and today was a nice sunny and warm day. I decided to try again.

My Method:
- Panel by panel, apply a thin layer of wax with my fingers and hand
- Leave until it is difficult to move the layer with my finger (smear your finger through the wax)

Here is the important part, Microfibers clothes.

It is a MUST to have 2 of these. 1 to remove the wax and 1 to buff.
This was the key! It worked! I was able to remove the wax from the panel. Once removed, there were still smears but this is where the 2nd (CLEAN) microfiber cloth comes in. I buffed the panel until the smears were gone with the 2nd cloth and it worked. The car looked fantastic and was smear-free!

I finished the rest of the car doing it panel by panel and it looked great.

Back to the topic of the blog. Dodo juice Rainforest Rub. What a product. The price tag is a bit high but the amount you get and the amount you use per wax is fantastic.
I managed to pick it up at CleanYourCar for just under £30 and I don’t regret it.

If you do buy this product in the future, I hope you enjoy it as much as I am.

Regards,
Jack
